Research for July 2nd 2008

Good afternoon from Sunny Los Angeles. Thought for the day: Fireworks and Hamburgers make a great combo. Tomorrow is a widely anticipated day. I would not expect to see much volume until the release from the ECB. Everyone who reads, I cannot stress enough, please trade smart and safe during tomorrow’s session. Tomorrow is also my birthday followed by the 4th. The next commentary will be coming on Monday July 7th. Have a great holiday and be safe!
EUR/USD

The Euro hit levels today that haven’t been seen since the end of April, thanks to the ADP employment change coming in WAY negative.   What will happen tomorrow with the action packed news day?   Due to the move above 1.5817 and the weekly range, we would be looking to buy on any bounces overnight with very minimum exposure and loose stops.   The correlation between the Euro and Swissy has been quite prevalent over the last week as well.   Notice the bear move made by the CHF.    This move confirms our belief of attaining the 1.6000 zone again in the very short term.   With all the fundamental information and technical confirmation, we are maintaining a bullish bias to the 1.7000 zone in the longer term.  Notice the perfect double bottom!

OOOOOOoooo the Yen.   What would a construction worker say if he dropped something from a high rise building?

Is 106.70 is the furthest it can test before taking out the 100 day upwards trend line?   If our trend line is not taken out then we believe another test of 108.56 is in order.   Very basic and simple today.

GBP/USD

Who likes trading the sterling dollar cross these days?   Not us!   Support: 1.9850 Resistance: 2.0000 Good Luck.   We maintain the view of both economies getting weaker, thus who is the weakest link?

A Light at the End of the Tunnel?

Windows were padlocked on Wall Street this weekend as market composites logged their worst weekly losses since the beginning of the year. Unemployment numbers came in uncomfortably higher than expected, sending markets into a freefall Thursday afternoon.

Market Commentary / Analysis for August 26th 2008

In yesterday’s commentary we discussed the Euro falling to 1.4600 and below that there could be sharp reactions back to the upside, especially at 1.4500.   During the full trading day the Euro fell 180+ pips creating fresh 6 month lows then reports of a Hurricane took over driving Oil up by $5 – which drives down the buck.

The euro appreciated sharply vis-à-vis the U.S. dollar today as the single currency tested offers around the US$ 1.3740 level and was supported around the $1.3480 level. The common currency bounced back from yesterday’s sizable losses as the markets remain highly volatile and susceptible to credit-driven dislocations.
