BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission said it has just received revised plans from the Polish authorities for restructuring the shipyards at Gdynia, Gdansk and Szczecin.
The commission had requested these revised restructuring plans as part of its inquiry into state aid given to the three shipyards, opened in June 2005.
The commission said it will now analyse the plans to assess whether they will ensure the shipyards' economic viability in the long term.
The aid granted by the Polish authorities is only compatible with EU state aid rules if used to restructure the yards so that they can survive in a competitive market without further subsidies in the future.
